Fluent in Catalan, Spanish, Italian and English, Joan has been the keynote speaker at national and international conferences in nine different countries on the topics of People Centered Innovation, User Centered Design, User Experience Design, and Innovation.

Joan is a freelance consultant, a public speaker, entrepreneur and co-founder of DonandMerit. Previously, Joan was partner and co-founder of A Piece of Pie, a business strategic consultancy company focused on innovation. The Company, which is based in Barcelona (Spain), counts among its many internationally recognized clients AstraZeneca, BancoSabadell, France Telecom, Ford, GallinaBlancaStar, Hewlett Packard, Intel, Kraft, la Caixa, Orange, Microsoft, Roca, SaraLee, Unilever, Novartis and Vodafone.
Earlier, Joan collaborated with E-Lab in Chicago as ethnographer researcher and was director of the Barcelona office for the Italian design agency Total Tool. During his professional career as designer he has worked on projects with companies such as Alessi, Hϋlsta, Knoll, Mandarina Duck, Viacom, Castelli and FIAT, and he has collaborated with architects and designers as Andrea Branzi, Isao Hosoe, Santiago Miranda and Esperanza Nuñez in Milan. He has participated in a range of investigative projects for the European Union, the Ministerio de Industria y Energía de España (the ministry of industry and energy of Spain) and the Centre de Innovació i Desenvolupament Empresarial de Catalunya (the Center for Innovation and Business Development for the Catalan Government). He was also commissioner of the 2003 Year of Design in Spain.
In the academic field Joan was Professor, and later Dean of the Elisava Design School in Barcelona where he developed research and post-graduate programs and collaborations with universities such as Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh, USA), the Southampton University (Southampton, UK), the Universidad Autonoma de Aguascalientes (Aguascalientes, Mexico), the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (Porto Alegre, Brasil) and the ORT University (Montevideo, Uruguay). He has been visiting Professor at Bauhaus (Weimar, Germany), Domus Academy (Milan, Italy), IESE Business School (Barcelona, Spain), Instituto de Empresa (Madrid, Spain), ESADE (Barcelona, Spain), Università Federico II (Naples, Italy), ISIA (Florence, Italy), Università la Sapienza (Rome, Italy) and Politecnico di Milano (Italy).
Joan Vinyets is the author of the books ¿Otro Consumo es posible? Producto, Consumo y Comunicación (“Is another type of consumption possible?”); Produto, Consumo y Comunicación: diseñar el punto de venta (“Product, Consumption and Communication: designing the point of sales”); and Ecodiseño y Ecoproductos (“Ecodesign and Ecoproducts”).
